Lazy Lizard Workout

Sport, health and laziness

C25K – W6D2

A weird thing happened to me today. I slept in and woke up around 11 am. Got online. Went grocery shopping. Got back home, started reading a book and… fell asleep and woke up 3 hours later. I was sleeping like a baby! Really weird. It was past 7 pm but I still went to a run.

Today I was supposed do the following:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

  • Jog 1 mile (or 10 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 1 mile (or 10 minutes)

Afternoon sleep made me tired and lazy and I didn’t get online to check what I was supposed to do on day 2 of week 6 so I decided to stick to day 2:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)

I enjoyed the nice cool air and few people on the track but after a 8-min run I felt pain in my stomach and decided not to continue. I felt exhausted. Not sure what’s going on. Maybe it is still the effect that sun eclipse had on us? No idea.

Tomorrow we are planning on going hiking at the Big Basin. Looks like no running for me. Oh well, hiking and being outdoors is awesome as well. I just hope I finish my C25K before the race. Getting nervous.

“Master Your Metabolism” by Jillian Michaels

I’ve been thinking about getting a copy of this book for quite sometime, and finally last night it arrived. Of course, I started reading it as soon as I unpacked it.

What can I say: it is one SCARY book! It doesn’t talk about calories or portion size – is talks about hormones and how we abuse our bodies. I am amazed! Even Jillian had issues with it not to say us. It is not a pleasant read but I hope I learn and IMPLEMENT what the book is preaching. Looks like big pantry clean up and total body detoxing coming soon.

I started week 6 of my Couch-to-5K Training Plan. After my last night failure with a 20-min run I still felt bad about myself and was kinda afraid to run again. I just could not see it as fun. This was my mistake, and it made it hard for me to run. The training was similar to that of week 5 but intervals duration was a bit different:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)

The last one was hard, and I didn’t expect myself to finish it but I did it. What helped me? You bertter ask: who. Xavier, my stepson, joined me at the end of the first running interval, and running together with a 13 y.o. motivates you a lot. He kept up with me, and we finished together. Feeling a little better about myself now.

I’ve been a bad girl all week and made it to Sunday with just one day of training. Today didn’t start well for me sportwise. I slept in and woke up tired, then we were watching hockey and had lots of food, and after all that I went out for a run. Crazy, I know.

The weather was beautiful as always – we are really getting into summer but nice fresh breeze makes it nice and cool. Nevertheless, the run was not easy for me today. Day 3 of week 5 is:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then jog two miles (or 20 minutes) with no walking.

The start was good, and I did one mile but then I had to switch from running to walking. I did one loop (1/4 mile) walking and then got back to running and wanted to do the second mile but I couldn’t:(( As I was running, as the food I had eaten was running with me. I survived 1 1/2 loops and walked one more loop. In total my training was 25 min as usual but I was very unhappy with myself. I know the food had to do a lot with it but I felt really bad about overeating and not being able to stick to the plan – it happened for the first time for me. Really upset.

Nevertheless, I am going to do the race. I just checked the website yesterday – June 1 registration fee is going up, so I need to register next week. I am doing it!

But the day ended much better. After I was done with my running, we stayed at the Campbell Community Center field to watch the solar eclipse. We had to use 2 pairs of sunglasses but we could see it perfect – thank you California weather:) It was amazing! Watching the eclipse made me think about how small we are in the Universe and how insignificant our worries are. Interestingly enough, nobody else was watching the eclipse – and there was a lot of people on the field. They seemed just so much into their own stuff. They say that next time the same thing happens will be in 200+ years. Once in a lifetime experience.

After a 2-week break I finally put on my running shoes and hit the track. I expected my body to take it really hard and was thinking about going back one week but the weather was so nice – sunny and cool – that I felt inspired to challenge myself and continued with where I stopped. I did it! It turned out to be much easier than I had thought. Good job!

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

  • Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes)
  • Walk 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes)

The next training is supposed to be a 20 min non-stop run. I really doubt I am ready for it right now so I might just repeat W5D2. Will see.
